Free Hear Assessment for Community Members

At the heart of care

Free heart assessment for community members in conjunction with May Lab Fair

Odessa Memorial Healthcare Center, a founding member of the Grand Columbia Health Alliance, will host a free Heart Healthy assessment event for those between the ages of 30 and 74 who may be at risk for cardiac disease. Symptoms that may indicate heart disease include shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, fatigue, swollen legs, or chest pain - other symptoms may not be as noticeable.

This event will offer free Lipid testing - triglycerides and cholesterol with both LDL and HDL - for those individuals who are between the ages of 30 and 74. No other testing is required to receive the free lipid panel.

OMHC is hosting the heart event in conjunction with our semi-annual Lab Fair on Tuesday, May 14th and Wednesday, May 15th. The Lab Fair will offer A1C and PSA tests for $20 each, Vitamin D testing for $30 and a panel that includes CBC, CMP, TSH and Lipids for $30 for those not receiving the free lipids and $25 for those who will receive the free lipids.

Anyone planning to have cholesterol testing alone or the panel should fast after midnight to ensure the most accurate results. Water and black coffee are ok. For more information, please call 509-982-2614.

More About Lipids AKA Cholesterol and Triglycerides

• Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or “bad” cholesterol. Having high levels of LDL cholesterol can lead to plaque buildup in your arteries and result in heart disease or stroke.

• High-density lipoprotein (HDL) or “good” cholesterol. HDL is known as “good” cholesterol because high levels can lower your risk of heart disease and stroke.

• Triglycerides, a type of fat in your blood that your body uses for energy. The combination of high levels of triglycerides with low HDL cholesterol or high LDL cholesterol levels can increase your risk for heart attack and stroke.

• Total cholesterol, the total amount of cholesterol in your blood based on your HDL, LDL, and triglycerides numbers.4
